HILLSBORO, Ala. - A severe thunderstorm in northern Alabama on Saturday interrupted a gathering in the town of Hillsboro, catching attendees off guard and forcing them to run for shelter.

The thunderstorm erupted around 1 p.m. local time and produced significant rainfall, cloud-to-ground lightning and damaging wind gusts.

Joshua Cofield was one of the attendees and said he was not expecting to see such a powerful thunderstorm.

"It was just a small green spot [on radar]; no more than three minutes later, the wind picked up, and that was the result," Cofield said, referring to his video.

Sollis said one child did not get out before the wind carried the house.

Brian Jones was roughly a block away when he heard children screaming. He looked to the north to see the bounce house rise between two trees.

“That has to be 20, 30 feet out of the air,” Jones said. “I’m thinking there are kids over there; they’re screaming, and the wind comes, and this bounce house is flying—this is trouble.”

BALTIMORE -- Concerned parents are wondering what more could have been done to keep a 5-year-old Maryland boy safe after he died when strong winds launched a bounce house 15 to 20 feet in the air and landed on a baseball field in Waldorf.

The Southern Maryland community is mourning the death of Declan Hicks, from La Plata, who was in the bounce house last Friday when it was pushed off the ground by a gust of wind during a Southern Maryland Blue Crabs baseball game at Regency Furniture Field.

"Just a bit of disbelief that something like that would happen so close to home," said James MacDonald, who lives near the stadium.

"Very unfortunate, very tragic," added Alisha Smith, who lives near the stadium. "No parent is expecting to be at a baseball game and experience that."…..

A FATHER was killed and his toddler seriously injured at a waterpark on Sunday after an inflatable structure violently took off due to strong winds.

The 35-year-old man and his three-year-old daughter were trapped inside the ride at Wonderland Waterpark in southern France when it was blown 160ft.

The horror incident occurred at around 3pm yesterday in the popular resort town of Saint-Maximin-la-Sainte-Baume in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region.

Both of the injured were airlifted to hospital suffering from cardiorespiratory arrest.

The town's mayor, Alain Decanis, later announced that the father had died from his injuries.

"It is with great sadness that I learned late in the evening that the dad had not survived," he wrote on Facebook.

The condition of the young child is currently unknown.

Decanis explained that the father and daughter had been playing when the inflatable structure - around 65ft long - was picked up by strong winds and "projected violently about fifty meters".

He added: "The firefighters and other rescuers arrived very quickly at the scene, but the situation was already critical when the two victims were airlifted to Marseille hospitals.

"How could a water park that we had accepted on the municipal territory to bring joy and happiness to children turn into a machine of death that struck down an entire family?"

An investigation has been opened into the tragedy at Wonderland Park, which had only opened this summer.

Mayor Decanis also said: "I would like to offer my most sincere condolences to the mother present on the scene, who has shown remarkable courage, as well as to all the members of the family."

The Var area was on red alert for forest fires due to aggressive 34 miles per hour winds on the weekend.

Wonderland Park stated online that it will be closed for two days "in solidarity with the victims and the families".

"We are devastated," the park's management added.

This is the stomach-churning moment a bouncy castle blew across busy motorway with a terrified child still inside

Footage captured from an aerial viewpoint shows what happened when a strong gust of wind suddenly threw the inflatable into a three-lane carriageway and an astonished onlooker captured the moment on their mobile phone. It shows how one little child is dropped onto the pavement as the bouncy castle is swept into oncoming traffic.

A car only just cleared it by inches and the the unmoored inflatable rolled over on the tarmac. It then tumbled towards the central reservation while another little boy is dumped onto the road. The shocked lad picks himself up and runs back to the pavement in front of slow-moving cars. The air-filled structure is stopped in its tracks by a lamppost and a billboard in Kuwait, yards from the sea.

A concerned adult is seen running towards the scene at the end of the short video. One local said: "A natural result for someone whose only concern in life is seeking bargains and has never thought about quality. Another responded and said: "It has nothing to do with quality. They simply didn't secure it to the ground properly." And Abdulrahman was grateful the children had not been hurt in the inflatable drama. He said: "Thank God for their safety."

Earlier this year The Mirror reported on two boys who were hurt after a bouncy castle was blown away during 'freak' strong winds. The boys, aged five and six, were thrown from the inflatable as it reached at least 15 feet into the air in South Glens Fall, New York. One of the boys even landed was swept onto a parked car.

The six-year-old suffered a serious head injury while the younger boy broke both arms after being tossed from the bouncy castle. Witness Taylor Seymour told the Post-Star: "It was like a horror movie - it just kept going up and up. It cleared our building and the trees." She said the wind "picked the structure up and spun it around, as if it was in a small tornado". A 10-year-old girl who was also inside the runaway toy was thrown from it shortly after take-off. The giant inflatable reached around 50 feet into the air before landing in the fields of a nearby school, police said.

Patrolman David Gifford said: "It was just a freak accident." And in another incident in May 2018 a bouncy castle flipped upside down as it was blown away by a huge gust of wind killing a six-year-old boy and injuring several others. Dramatic footage showed the large inflatable being swept away by the wild weather in a public square.
